Buying Bread

Bread Tree Baking Co. does not have a brick and mortar storefront at this time. We have a licensed baking facility where we prepare all our products. Please note that we work with gluten, peanuts, and tree nuts in our facility, though we do make some flour free and nut free items. Send us an email with your questions!

Thawing & Reheating Instructions

Bread Tree breads freeze and reheat very well. In fact, if you aren't going to finish a loaf within a couple days, you should put it in a plastic freezer bag for storage in the fridge. When it is time to eat, we recommend popping your loaves in the oven for a crisp crust and a soft, warm interior! Place fresh, frozen, or thawed loaves in a preheated 350°F oven or toaster oven directly onto the oven rack. Time in the oven will vary, but typically between 5 and 20 minutes depending on the size of the loaf and whether it is frozen. Let it cool slightly before slicing or breaking to serve. You can also thaw frozen loaves and store them in bags in the refrigerator for daily toast. Amazing! (Please note that we do not sell unbaked bread or dough; all our frozen products are already baked.)

Online Ordering

If you live in Des Moines, you can find our products at the Iowa Food Cooperative store location on Franklin Avenue every other week.

We deliver (for free!) baked goods within the Grinnell city limits periodically using our online ordering system. We let everyone know via email that it is time to order and you can order from a selection of fresh day-of breads, dessert options, and frozen loaves of other varieties. (Our frozen breads thaw, reheat, and toast very nicely.) We offer many breads, such as 7-Grain, Sourdough, Breakfast Swirl, Baguettes, and Green Olive-Pimento. We are regularly adding new items to our product line, both breads and sweets! Sign up for our emails on the Home page to find out when the store is open.

Please know that we love corresponding with our community of bread lovers. Never hesitate to reply to our emails. However, we prefer that you order through the online system so that we may more reliably get your order right. Grinnell delivery customers can pay with cash or check when they choose Manual payment during checkout, which can be left in the cooler or container you put out for us. If ordering online is more than you want to manage, feel free to reply to our email. If you forget to place your weekly order, you can find us at the other listed locations above or send us an email to see if we can fit your order into the delivery schedule. This will depend on what is still available before we head out.
